Project Overview

Dazuma supported the project with a coordinated café lighting solution across counter, display, seating, and storefront areas.

Coffee & Co. was developed as a contemporary neighborhood café where lighting needed to support more than visual atmosphere alone. The project combines high-volume bar service, pastry presentation, menu clarity, flexible customer seating, and a strong street-corner identity visible through full-height glazing. The lighting strategy was built to help the café feel inviting during the day while still reading warm, active, and branded after dark. Rather than relying on one uniform lighting layer, the project uses a combination of decorative pendants, focused task lighting, and broader ambient illumination to support service speed, product presentation, and customer dwell time throughout the space.

From Brief to Final Installation

Project Brief

Brief

Understanding the scope, priorities, and visual direction

We begin by reviewing the project goals, site conditions, space functions, and overall design expectations. This early stage helps define the lighting direction and identify the key performance needs for the project.

Drawing & Site Review

Concept

Translating concept requirements into buildable conditions

Drawings, dimensions, ceiling conditions, and installation constraints are reviewed to align the lighting plan with the actual site. This step helps reduce coordination issues before fixtures move into final selection and placement.

Fixture Coordination

Technical

Matching fixture types, finishes, and placement to the project

Fixture specifications are coordinated according to the design intent, application requirements, and site conditions. Size, finish, light output, and mounting details are considered together to support both visual impact and practical use.

Installation

Supporting clean execution during the installation phase

During installation, fixture positioning, on-site conditions, and execution details are reviewed to keep the lighting plan aligned with the intended result. This stage is critical for maintaining consistency across the project.

Exterior & Storefront

A glass-forward corner frontage designed to turn interior lighting into part of the café’s brand identity

The storefront was designed to work as a daytime and nighttime brand surface. Full-height glazing allows the café’s counter, pendants, and customer activity to remain visible from the street, helping the business feel approachable and active. At night, the interior lighting becomes a major part of the exterior expression, allowing the café to glow outward without relying on aggressive signage or over-lit façade treatments.

· Strengthen street-corner visibility
· Use interior lighting as part of the storefront identity
· Create a welcoming neighborhood presence after dark

Coffee Bar & Service Counter

A central operational island designed for order flow, drink preparation, and visual focus

The coffee bar acts as the operational and visual heart of the café. Its rounded wood cladding softens the commercial equipment zone, while the pendant cluster above helps anchor the space within the larger ceiling volume. Recessed and track-mounted lighting support clearer working visibility for baristas, and the overall composition allows the counter to read as a calm focal point rather than a cluttered back-of-house setup.

· Support barista workflow and service clarity
· Maintain a strong visual center within an open café plan
· Keep the counter area efficient without losing warmth

Menu Wall & Product Display

A service-backdrop zone designed to keep menu information, equipment, and pastries visually organized

The back counter and menu wall needed enough focused illumination to remain readable and commercially effective without feeling harsh. Accent lighting supports menu visibility and draws attention to the tiled backdrop, while the pastry display benefits from cleaner frontal light that helps products look fresh and appealing. This zone is especially important in the U.S. café market, where visual clarity at the point of ordering directly influences both customer confidence and speed of service.

· Improve menu readability
· Support pastry and product presentation
· Keep the service backdrop organized and visually calm

Customer Seating & Window Lounge

A relaxed seating zone designed for short visits, laptop use, and casual neighborhood dwell time

The seating area along the glazed perimeter was designed to feel bright and approachable during the day while maintaining warmth as the light outside drops. Small round café tables, black seating, plants, and decorative pendants help create a more residential scale against the taller storefront glazing. Instead of treating seating as leftover space after the counter, the project positions it as part of the core business model, supporting customers who stay for conversation, reading, or light work.

· Encourage longer dwell time without sacrificing turnover flexibility
· Create a softer customer zone distinct from the service bar
· Use lighting to support comfort near the large glass perimeter
